Day 17 | This Lent is for Choosing Well

"'I tell you,' [Jesus] replied,
'If they keep quiet,
the very stones will cry out.'"
- Luke 19:40

Today's post comes to you via Keri Foley, our Family Equipping Pastor at Woodinville Alliance. This is from a communication she sent out this past week to Children's & Youth families, rich and good for us all:

Hi all!
I woke up this morning somewhere between 3 and 4am, my thoughts a mingle of to-do lists, worries, prayers and thoughts of God.  I laid there for a very long time, continually pressing my thoughts back in the direction of scripture.  Yesterday in our staff meeting, we were praying John 6 over our church family -- the familiar bible story where Jesus' disciples are in a boat, headed across the lake toward Capernaum, surrounded by rough seas, terrified.  Jesus called out to them and said, "Don't be afraid.  I am here!"  The greek reads "The I AM is here."

The God of the universe, I AM, was there.  The Christ written about in Colossians 1:  "He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation... He made the things we can see and the things we can't see--such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world.  Everything was created through him and for him.  He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together."  I have been praying that this image of Jesus would be fresh in our minds. Jesus, reaching out to each of us individually, saying "Don't be afraid, I am here."

Personally, I felt like God reminded me to CHOOSE Him.  A friend sent me the song Lift You High by Housefires & Friends.

The chorus says:

So we lift you high, Forever lift you high
High within our hearts, High within our minds
Jesus you alone, Our rock our cornerstone
High within our hearts, High within our minds

I won't let the rocks cry out in my place,
We return the breath you gave with our praise

I know God is on His throne and hasn't moved, but I do believe there is something to us CHOOSING to set Him above all the things in our hearts and minds.  Above our fears, above our to-do lists, above our plans, above our hopes, even.

So this morning, I put this song on repeat.  I went outside and lifted my eyes to the heavens.  I breathed in the coolness of the air, took in the signs of renewal all around me and set my mind on HIM.  I guess my encouragement to us all is that we remember to lift Him high.  When we feel overwhelmed, we remember His presence, we ask for His peace.

You are loved,
Keri
